Button wrinklewort

Endangered

The button wrinklewort (Rutidosis leptorhynchoides) is a native perennial daisy, largely restricted in Victoria to a small number (11) of native grassland sites on the Volcanic Plain. Losses have occurred through extensive land clearing and the introduction of sheep grazing

Major threats

  • Declines in fire frequency reduces habitat quality
  • Lack of genetic diversity
  • Weed invasion and physical disturbance

Key actions

  • Maintain regular burning regimes to ensure appropriate habitat structure
  • Undertake genetic testing to identify populations in need of intervention
  • Protect sites from soil disturbance and control emerging weeds
